The timing of the terror attack along the Champs-Elysées in Paris, which left one French policeman dead and two more seriously injured, could not have been better for one of the Presidential candidates.
It would suggest extremists are hoping to influence the outcome of the French Presidential Elections by generating fear through the old tactic of ‘if you are not nice to us then you can expect much more of this.’
However, as we know, the average Islamic extremist is too stupid to realise that the problem of Islamic immigration into Europe, and France in particular, is moving ordinary, decent people away from the liberal left, who have been letting them get away with murder, towards a hard-line Right Wing who will bring a halt to immigration and take an intolerant position on those of Muslim faith already living their countries.
And Marine Le Pen has promised to ban Islamic immigration to France whilst main opponent Emmanuel Macron has told the French people they will have to get used to a ‘lifetime of terrorism on French soil.’
It was a move similar to that of London Mayor, Siddiq Khan, who told Londoners that terrorism was going to be ‘part and parcel of living in a major European city.’
Well, no they don’t and no it isn’t.
We all heard a similar sort of rhetoric last year when Americans were warned of doom and disaster should Donald Trump win his election and Brexit voters were threatened with all sorts of horrible things should they win their argument.
Trump and Brexit voters were vilified and attacked all year by the liberal left and so, when asked, they did what all decent people do and kept their counsel. This is why all the political polls last year predicted wins for Remain and Clinton.
The reason for this is two-fold. Firstly, decent people prefer to avoid confrontation so, when asked, failed to reveal their true intentions at the ballot box. Secondly, political polls are always slanted in favour of whoever commissioned and paid for them. In other words they are fake.
So called surprise wins for Brexit and Trump revealed this to anybody who was spaying attention.
Which brings us to the latest French polls that, this morning, look like this;
Macron – 24%
Le Pen – 22.1%
Fillon – 19.1%
It looks tight between the top four candidates as the polling stations open.
The way it works is that if one candidate gains 50% or more of the vote at the first ballot (today) then they win the election outright. If not then the top two candidates go forward to a second ballot, a play-off if you like, on May 7 and the winner of that becomes the new president of France.
Usually French elections go forward to a second ballot.
All the predictions are that Macron and Le Pen will lead the first ballot and face each other in the second. Most then, in true Trump and Brexit style, predict a heavy loss for Le Pen.
We can be sure that one more terrorist atrocity against French citizens between now and then will certainly move more voters towards Le Pen.
However, this week’s Daily Telegraph internet poll, anonymity guaranteed, reveals Le Pen with a big lead. Big enough, in fact, to win at the first vote.
Le Pen supporters are simply not telling anybody of their voting intentions. Not publicly at any rate. Shades of Brexit, shades of Trump.
It’s true, Marine Le Pen could easily be the President of France by the end of today, despite what the experts have been telling you. Remember last year’s polls and don’t be surprised to see a new President by tomorrow morning.
And that is when all the fun will start.
