Video: ‘Belgium is NOT a nation’ – Farage barracks the EU

Nigel Farage blasts EU leaders and claims 'Belgium is not a nation'

‘Belgium is NOT a nation!’ Farage provokes EU UPROAR as he BRUTALLY taunts Belgian PM

NIGEL Farage provoked uproar in the European Parliament as he declared “Belgium is not a nation” in an epic tirade at EU leaders for refusing to talk about Brexit and ignoring the will of EU citizens across the bloc.

Speaking in Brussels, the former Ukip leader claimed Belgium was an artificial creation of the European project as EU leaders failed to mention  as they welcomed Belgian PM Charles Michel.

Mr Farage said: “Belgium is not a nation, it’s an artificial creation.

“I know the Brits did it, maybe once again we can be blamed, but the truth is that are two parts of Belgium.

“They speak different languages, they dislike each other intensively, there is no national tv station, there is no national newspaper.

“Belgium is not a nation and maybe that’s why you’re happy to sign up to a higher European level.

“Well, if Belgium wants it that’s fine, but I can assure you, and you can scream and shout all you like, just look at the election results.

“You’re losing folks, you’re losing. Brexit is the first brick out of the wall, you’ll learn the lesson, the days of this project are over.

“We want to live in nation-states, not false, artificial creations.”

The Belgian PM hit back angrily at Farage’s remarks.

He said: “Mr Philippe Nigel Farage you are slipping into populism and extremism and I don’t think that is worthy of your political party.

“Yes, of course, I should thank Nigel Farage for his good advice on the future of Belgium.

“I’m very pleased for Nigel Farage for this future of Belgium.

“He sorted out the future of the UK with Brexit and we see where that’s ended up in the UK.

“To be more clear, obviously Brexit constitute a challenge for the EU27. And what is the situation at the moment?

“I’m fully aware that Belgium could be hit the hardest by the ramification of Brexit.

“We want to have a credible negotiation. We want to be committed to keeping close ties with the UK.”

Speaking before the former Ukip leader, EU Brexit coordinator Guy Verhofstadt called for the EU to be more united.

He said: “We need more Europe, not less Europe to deal with these crises.

“We have a European border force that we need, we need a European defence, we need a European budget for the eurozone.

The actions of Europe is not going to cost more: we are actually saving money because a lot of the expenditure that is not necessary is being spent at a national level because the national member states are doing 28 times the same thing over and over again where Europe can provide an added value.

“So many examples where this is true. Military expenditure: 23 per cent of the American expenditure is what we spend. We can’t do what the Americans do, why? Because we are doing it on 28 different occasions.” – Express
