Elite ex-soldiers hiding among british public ready to confront terror

Highly trained elite former soldiers are now with the British public and are ready to strike should they spot a potential terror suspect.

The move followed the attacks on members of the public at Manchester Arena and the London Bridges.

Known as Behavior Detection Officers (BDO) they will infiltrate large crowds at sporting or music events and mainline train stations wearing plain clothes and are sufficiently armed.

The majority of the BDOs are ex-military or former specialist police officers and are alert to anybody looking or acting suspiciously who may fit the profile of an Islamic terrorist.

The teams are ordered to ‘eliminate the threat’ to protect the British public where they are thought to me most vulnerable.

Operations director for Iridium Security, Reg Walker, said, ‘BDOs are plain clothed officers placed outside gig venues looking for the unusual. Red flags can include people wearing quilted parkas on a sunny day, sweating profusely and those carrying massive backpacks. They will stand where the footfall comes in at the most vulnerable access points – transport hubs are a biggie.’

‘If they see someone with what they think is a bomb, they will move crowds to a safe point and place the area on lockdown and that person is not allowed inside.

There will be a void around the threat – there is nothing that person can do other than blow themselves up. These BDOs are ex-military or ex-police – their raison d’être is to hunt out a threat and eliminate it.’

The officers have been drafted in at tourist hotspots and open air summer festivals following the attacks at Manchester Arena and London Bridge.

Called ‘Operation Hercules’ armed police have been drafted in to protect venues across the country and particularly throughout London.

Security officers are now working hard to avoid repeat attacks by working closely with police intelligence units and are receiving specialised training.

Former SAS soldiers, SBS marines and paratroopers are thought to have been drafted into the units.
