Generation Clueless is running out of attention

The protests were condemned as a complete flop by American grown ups

The mixed up, muddled up jumble of teachers, students, jobless, friendless and feckless, that collect under the name ‘ANTIFA’, have completely stiffed in their attempt to create a ‘Day of Rage’ across America.

Self-proclaimed anarchists were accused of planning to hijack anti-Trump protests across America yesterday, with the alt-right warning of the “Antifa apocalypse”.

The apocalyptic narrative took hold despite the fact that the leftist groups planning to protest yesterday only have dubious connections to Antifa.

Left-wing action group Refuse Fascism organised a series of non-violent anti-Trump protests in 20 cities across the United States, including in Honolulu, in a bid to unseat Donald Trump.

And it seems the event went of largely without incident, with Antifa civil-war fears proving unfounded as police reported a distinct lack of criminal damage or violence from ‘Generation Clueless.’

Now right-wing critics have accused the anti-facist movement, known for its militant and often violent tactics, of being a complete failure.

Hundreds of protesters calling on President Trump to resign took to the streets of Manhattan on Saturday for a rally in Times Square in a bid to force the commander-in-chief from office.

Co-organizer Luis Barrios, 65, said: “One of the things we say is we need to make a wake up call.

“It’s possible to drive this regime out. That’s what we’re doing, educating people, mobilising people and bringing hope back.”

But Owen Shroyer, from right-wing conspiracy theory website Infowars, said only a handful of people turned up for the rally/

He said: “They spent millions of dollars on this, they bought full-page ads in the NYT – but today rolls around and its a dud.

“Here in Austin you have about 30 Anti-Trump protests, 50 police protecting them and 200 Trump supporters or more out here chanting USA in the streets – it really turned into a Trump event if anything.

“I’ve heard that nationwide they expected big numbers and it turns out that wasn’t the case.”

The left-wing protest kicked off as organisers handed out leaflets about the Revolutionary Communist Party, Refuse Fascism and other groups.

And groups of people shouted chants throughout the march including “Whose streets? Our Streets!” and “No KKK, no fascist USA, no Trump.”

The peaceful protests were planned as the one year anniversary of President Trump’s election win approaches.

But in the run-up to yesterday’s event, which was due to be attended by thousands of people at each of the 22 individual marches, alt-ring groups warned of an “antifa apocalypse”.

Antifa – short is anti-fascist – is a loose collective of extreme anarchists, socialists and communists who see violence as a legitimate form of activism.

And the group were expected to hijack the series of anti-government, left-wing demonstrations yesterday in what was being called an “antifa civil war”.

Far-right media outlets in the US described the impending demonstrations as the “antifa apocalypse”, issuing dire warnings that “antifa supersoldiers” will terrorise the nation.

But in reality, the protests were largely uneventful with no reports of violence so far.

Jack, a 25-year-old spokesperson for Refuse Fascism, told Newsweek that he wasn’t concerned by the attendance of the event and that it was just the beginning of removing Trump from office.

“We always want more people,” Jack said. “This is just the first day.”
